Cleaning the fridge is a task many do not look forward to. Thank goodness there are self-cleaning models that make this task easier and faster. Frost-free fridges, as the self-cleaning fridges are also known, first came into the market in the golden era of interior design, the 60s through to the 70s. Homemakers all over were over the moon about this new appliance and they quickly started replacing the old iceboxes with the new model.
The beauty of the self-cleaning fridge is that most women now had to work out of the home and this meant that household chores need to be done fast and efficiently since time for this became limited. The thought of not having to clean out the frost from your fridge must have appealed to many then as it does in modern times. This model is a great saver since food stays fresher for longer and this saves money, time and energy.
With the advent of the self-cleaning fridge came also colorful fridges. Both bold, vibrant colors and cool pastels were common colors for fridges. This was quite convenient since you could have a complete color scheme and it saved time too. The design also changed tremendously and became modern and appealing. Having the modern model in your kitchen definitely improved your decor and this shows why these new range of fridges was fast gaining popularity.
Aside from the self-cleaning feature, the new model of fridges came with a few modern conveniences too. One of this is the two-door feature that separated the freezer from the fridge. Depending on the manufacturer, the two compartments could be side by side or one on top of the other. This allowed for better organization and great energy savings because you only opened the compartment you needed. Some models even featured a water and ice cube dispenser for greater convenience.
